I am Shawn L. Campbell, and I am asking for your vote this May for the position of Magistrate – Division 2. I am a born and raised Fayette County man. I grew up in Ansted and graduated from Midland Trail High School. I currently hold a degree in Applied Science. I have been with my wife Alicia Bracken Campbell of Gauley Bridge for 24 years and we currently live in the Fayetteville area. Alicia has worked in higher education in our area for 20+ years.
I am currently endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police 118 and the Fayette County Deputy Sheriff’s Association.
I have spent my entire adult life serving the people of Fayette County. I joined the Ansted Volunteer Fire Department shortly out of high school and spent several years with that fine group of people. I served as a police officer with the Pratt Police Department for several months before obtaining a position with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department. There I served in several capacities including but not limited to:

I was the youngest to be promoted the rank of Captain (highest civil service rank) and was the recipient of the “Incite Hope” award for fighting domestic violence as well as the Law Enforcement Achievement Award.
In 2021 I retired as Captain of the Sheriff’s Department after nearly 22 years of service. At that time, I accepted an appointment by the Chief Circuit Judge of Fayette County to serve as an interim Magistrate (Div 4). Following this, I served as an investigator dealing mostly in fire/arson cases as well as assignments from the Supreme Court (PD Services). I am currently employed as a Safety Officer – Risk Manager for a golf course construction company.
During the course of my law enforcement career, I responded to thousands of calls that ultimately resulted in myself or the population I was serving to seek the services of the Magistrate Court. I am the only candidate that can claim that I have stood in the driveways, roadside, living rooms, kitchens, and front porches in all corners of this county dealing with the majority of what ends up in Magistrate Court on a daily basis for more than 2 decades. Not only that, but I also executed countless documents/orders/petitions that was produced by Magistrate Court. As Magistrate, I heard numerous cases, none of which were appealed to the circuit court. Because of my extensive experience serving the people of Fayette County, I was able to fully understand the burdens and stresses that comes with walking into the Magistrate Court for whatever reason that may be. I was always easily approachable and publicly accessible.
